Roland, a cosmopolitan and "drummer" since his childhood, lived 12 years of his life on three different continents outside of Europe. He has been an enthusiastic drummer and percussionist for the last 25 years and is educated in Cuban and South-American, as well as West-African drumming cultures (partly in the country).
As a professionally trained drum instructor, he taught at a music school in the US for five years. There, he gained his first insights into drum circles. Later on, he studied with Arthur Hull.
The great power and dynamics in drums inspired him since the very beginning of his drum-set training. His continued studies of Music Therapy and Systemic Therapy were the logical result.
Roland offers a monthly, local “open community drum circle” since 2018. In addition, he has been able to gain experience with drum circles in different contexts: team building events in businesses, hospitals, social organizations, private events and with refugees. 500 people attended his biggest drum circle.
Time and time again, Roland is fascinated about how people that have never had a drum in their hands before can plug into the groove and form a cohesive group. They gain a flow state in which they can switch off, ground themselves, come into resonance with one another and experience a sense of belonging. During this event, a lot of connection, interaction, listening to each other etc. happens. In so doing, cultural, generational, social and hierarchical differences can be overcome. The result is a thrilling event, in which people connect with each other through rhythm - a catalyst for group processes.
